Ecology and Eastern Europe are two social hotspots to which Graz Slavic Studies is dedicating an international conference. For the literary and cultural studies research of ecological concepts and forms of representation as well as knowledge practices of "ecological culture"(ėkologičeskaja kul'tura) as a culture-specific, dynamic and medially mediated human-nature interaction as well as social intervention, the conference takes up the more comprehensive umbrella term of Green Culture. This is based on an emphatic understanding of "greenness" as a culturally founded, positive value with regard to the balance of the biosphere and is also politically reflective and critical of anthropogenic destruction (program).
